Avner (Allen and Elaine Avner Fund)

Focus: Sustaining contribution to Sinai Temple

Priorities: Permanent support (originally, lifetime membership)

Distribution of income: Income is automatically sent to Sinai Temple for inclusion in its General Fund at the start of each fiscal year.

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple but managed by CUJEF

 

Cohen (Julius Cohen Memorial Garden Fund)          

Focus:  To provide for garden maintenance and improvement.  

Priorities: Maintenance and improvement of Sinai Temple gardens.

Distribution of income: Income is automatically sent to Sinai Temple for inclusion in its General Fund at the start of each fiscal year.

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple but managed by CUJEF

 

Ginsberg (Joli and Donald Ginsberg Library Fund)        

Focus:  Sinai Temple Library.

Priorities:  Books, periodicals, video tapes, compact discs, and other educational materials deemed appropriate to the Sinai Temple Library. Materials are to be chosen by the Sinai Temple Rabbi and /or the Temple Librarian. In addition, funds may be used for shelving, chairs, computers, and other material needs.

Distribution of income: Income is automatically sent to Sinai Temple at the start of each fiscal year for use in the Temple library.

Note:  Purchases are to identified by bookplates displaying the message "Donated by the Joli and Donald Ginsberg Library Endowment Fund" ​

 

Ginsberg 2 (Donald M. and Joli L. Ginsberg Lecture Fund)

Focus: Sinai Temple

Priorities: provide for guest lectures. Printed programs shall indicate support by the Fund.

Distribution of Income: income is automatically sent to Sinai Temple at the start of each fiscal year.

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple but managed by CUJEF.

 

Glaser (Milton and Annette Glaser Concert Fund)     

Focus:  Sinai Temple. 

Priorities:  For biennial concerts of Jewish music at Sinai Temple.

Distribution of income:  Upon approval of the application by the CUJEF Board. ​

 

Hamburg (J. Ben Hamburg Early Childhood Education Fund)       

Focus:  Sinai Temple Religious School.

Priorities:  Jewish educational materials for kindergarten through grade three.

Distribution of income:  Income is automatically sent to Sinai Temple for inclusion in its General Fund at the start of each fiscal year. ​

Hymowitz (Theodore Hymowitz Endowment Fund)                   

Focus and priorities: support acquisition or maintenance of ritual objects for Champaign County Jewish religious institutions, specifically Illini Chabad, Illini Hillel, and Sinai Temple

Distribution of income: proposals will be solicited annually by CUJEF by notice to eligible institutions.

 

Klein (Miles and Barbara Klein Endowment Fund)                     

Focus: support Sinai Temple Rabbi's education or development

Distribution of income: upon application by Sinai Temple to the CUJEF Board

 

Korry (Sisterhood Myron Korry Confirmation Education Fund)        

Focus:  Sinai Temple Religious School.

Priorities:  To fund a religious experience for the annual confirmation class.

Distribution of income:  Income is transferred to Sinai Temple at the start of each fiscal year.

Lewis (Lewis Family Fund)        

Focus:  Sinai Temple.

Priorities:  For Lectures and other programs of Judaic interest. For full or partial scholarships to Jewish Camps.

Distribution of Income:  Income is transferred to Sinai Temple at the request of its Board of Directors

 

Libman (Clarence and Adele Libman Sinai Temple Religious School Fund)     

Focus:  Sinai Temple Religious School.

Established:  In 1993 by the families of William and Robert Libman.

Distribution of income:  Income is automatically sent to Sinai Temple at the start of each fiscal year for the sole use of the Sinai Temple Religious School. Use of the funds is at the discretion of the Sinai Temple Board of Trustees in collaboration with the recommendations of the Sinai Temple Religious School Committee.​

 

Linowes Bequest (David Linowes Bequest)         

Focus: Relationships between religious institutions.

Established: October 2008 by Sinai Temple Board

Distribution of income:  Income is transferred to Sinai Temple at the request of its Board of Directors. ​

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple and managed by CUJEF

 

Loeb (Charles R. and Helen Loeb Fund)          

Focus:  Sinai Temple Religious School.

Priorities:  Education of Jewish children in religious school and other institutions, including camps. 

Distribution of income:  Income is transferred to Sinai Temple at the request of its Board of Directors​

Marco (Jack and Sadye Marco Holocaust Fund)      

Focus:  Sinai Temple Holocaust recognition.

Established: In 1995 by Sadye Marco. Her daughters, Jewel Kurland and Shirley Kulwin may serve as advisors to the Board.

Priorities:  Primarily to fund an annual Yom HaShoah program at Sinai Temple with appropriate music and speakers that will attract adults and children. Where funds are available, support of community Holocaust education efforts will be given.

Distribution of income:  Sinai Temple is to be notified of the amount of funds available early enough for planning in advance of Day of Remembrance. All or part of the available funds will be provided upon application by a Sinai Temple planning committee consisting of the Rabbi, the Rabbi Emeritus, a member of the Marco family, the Sinai Temple Adult Education Chair, and the CUJF Holocaust Education Chair.

 

Robinson Sinai Temple (Arthur R. Robinson Sinai Temple Fund)        

Focus:  Sinai Temple.

Established: In 2016 in memory of Arthur Robinson. 

Priorities:  Provides support to Sinai Temple. 

Distribution of income: Annual automatic disbursement. 

Note: This is a quasi-endowment.

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple and managed by CUJEF

 

Shapiro (Michael and Elizabeth Shapiro Camp Scholarship Fund)     

Focus:  Sinai Temple Religious School.

Established:  In 2000 by Milton and Rebecca Shapiro in honor of Michael and Elizabeth.

Priorities:  Scholarships for children enrolled in the Sinai Temple Religious School to support attendance at Olin Sang Ruby Union Institute.

Distribution of income:  Determined by the Sinai Temple Rabbi and Educator (or committee appointed by the Sinai Temple Board) based on need.

Note:  Awards are to be made in a fashion that will not intrude on the family's privacy. ​

 

Sinai Board (Sinai Temple Tepper Board Discretionary Fund)         

Focus: Sinai Temple.

Priorities: Support projects of the Sinai Temple Board of Directors for which funds are otherwise unbudgeted.

Distribution of income: Income is transferred to Sinai Temple at the request of its Board of Directors.

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple and managed by CUJEF

 

Sinai Camp (Sinai Temple Sisterhood Camp Scholarship Fund)        

Focus:  Sinai Temple.

Priorities:  Provides partial tuition scholarships to UAHC camps for children of Sinai Temple members.

Distribution of income:  Income is transferred to Sinai Temple at the request of its Board of Directors.​

Sinai General (Sinai Temple General Endowment Fund)       

Focus:  Sinai Temple.

Priorities:  Augments the Sinai Temple General Fund.

Distribution of income:  Income is automatically sent to Sinai Temple for inclusion in its General Fund at the start of each fiscal year.

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple and managed by CUJEF ​

 

Small (Dr. Samuel and Sadie Small Fund for Jewish Arts and Culture)          
Focus: Jewish Art and Culture.
Established: In 1994 by Erwin Small, who may serve as advisor to the Board.
Priorities: To sponsor a wide range of Jewish arts and culture of high quality to the CU Jewish community and to the community at large. Priority is to events featuring performing arts. Other events representing aspects of Jewish arts and culture may be supported. Priority is to be given to events representing Jewish culture from around the world. Events may be co-sponsored by other funds or organizations.
Distribution of income: Upon approval of written application to the CUJEF Board. Application must include a brief statement of the nature of the proposed program, date(s), responsible person, group or organization, and amount requested.

 

Smith  (Alfred and Natalie Smith Building Endowment Fund)        

Focus:  Sinai Temple Building Fund.

Established:  In 2002 by the Smith family in memory of  Natalie Smith as a part of the Rabbinic Endowment with Blanche Sudman. Modified in 2014 as its own fund. Modified in 2022 to change its purpose

Priorities:  Provide a stable source of funding for the Sinai Temple Building Fund

Distribution of income:  To Sinai Temple upon request from the Sinai Temple Board.  ​

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple and managed by CUJEF

 

Steinberg (Marvin Steinberg Scholar-in-Residence Fund)         

Focus: Sinai Temple.

Priorities: For bringing scholars to present a lecture/seminar series at Sinai Temple to help perpetuate Judaism.

Distribution of income: Upon request from a Sinai Temple committee established to plan a program. Note: If no program is given for a 6 year period, or if Sinai Temple ceases to exist, capital in the Steinberg fund is to be transferred to the University of Illinois for support of Judaic studies​

 

Sudman Rabbinic Endowment         

Focus:  Sinai Temple Rabbinic Salary.

Established:  In 2002 by Blanche Sudman  in memory of Seymour Sudman as a part of the Rabbinic Endowment with the Smith family. Modified in 2014 as its own fund. 

Priorities:  Provide a stable source of salary funding for the Sinai Temple Rabbi.

Distribution of income:  To Sinai Temple upon request from the Sinai Temple Board. Note: The establishing donors wished for earnings accrued by this endowment to be accumulated for use in years when salary increases could not be met by increases in Temple Support payments by the membership.

Sudman (Blanche and Seyour Sudman Rabbi's Discretionary Fund)

Focus: Sinai Temple Rabbi's discretionary expenditures

Priorities: To provide a regular source of income to Sinai Temple Rabbi's Discretionary Fund.

Distribution of income: Annual income is transferred to the Rabbi's Discretionary Fund at the start of the fiscal year.

This endowed fund is owned by Sinai Temple and managed by CUJEF ​

 

Youth (Stanley and Joan Levy Youth Leadership Fund)      

Focus:  Sinai Temple.

Priorities:  Supports attendance at youth leadership conferences by youth in the Champaign - Urbana Jewish community.

Distribution of income:  Income is transferred to Sinai Temple at the request of its Board of Directors​.

Zimmerman (Mathlia Zimmerman B'nai Israel Fund)        

Focus:  Sinai Temple.

Priorities:  For support of lecturers and pulpit guests at Sinai Temple.

Distribution of income:  Income is transferred to Sinai Temple at the request of its Board of Directors.
